New Hero for Devil May Cry 4

Devil May Cry 4Devil May Cry 4 001

Resuming the countdown,  the official website says that there’s only two days left until we see Nero in action. You read right. Dante is no more. And we’re just getting started on Devil May Cry 4.

According to Hideaki Itsuno, Famitsu‘s director, the change in lead character was made to have new and long time players start with a clean slate. He adds that one of the worries was that if the game looked too much like a sequel, new players will have a hard time of getting with the program. But no need to worry, this is not the last we’ll be seeing of Dante. He’s still going to make an appearance in the game as a “mysterious person” that in Nero’s eyes, is the enemy that obliterated his allies. The Dante that we’ll see here comes after part 1 but before part 2 (the series chronology is 3, 1, 4, 2).

We bet you’re already wondering if Dante will be a playable character aren’t you? Although Famitsu shows some pictures of him shooting his gun, it’s too early to jump into conclusions as it could just be event scenes. But for now, let’s focus on the actual playable character shall we? Nero can use his right hand to pull distant enemies in and send enemies in close proximity flying into the distance. It’s not called the Devil Right Hand for nothing. He also has access to a variety of guns and swords including the Red Queen.

Another interesting tidbit comes from a translated page of Gamefront, the crude translation says, “There is a special attack of the right arm with sword and pistol, which are called “Devil Bringer”. It was not possible on the PS3.” Which we can interpret in two ways. Either is going to be a move called Devil Bringer that previously wasn’t possible until the PS3 or that it just isn’t possible even with the PS3. Just as mysterious is an attack where your sword has an element of “acceleration.” What that exactly means, we think will be revealed on the Tokyo Game Show.

Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi has also stated that we will be able to sample the game as Nero along with a surprise announcement on the said event.
