Next Grand Theft Auto Going Online?
Ready for another Grand Theft Auto rumor? Every time a new installment of the GTA is being secretly developed, these kind of rumors start up. However, this time it might actually be true.
A job listing posted by Rockstar North, creators of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, says they’re “looking to expand their experienced and talented teams” with the addition of network programmers.
Not just any network programmers…ones that specialize in code that allows for multiplayer gaming via a LAN, wireless connection, or online. The ad has been up for more than a month, which may indicate positions are still available. That may mean the company is hiring more than one network programmer, hinting at a large scale project, perhaps? Like a new game? Hmmm?
Of course, we’ve foolishly got excited about these things before. Remember when it was revealed that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories would have multiplayer, and lots of people wished that gamers would be able to shoot it out online? Well, that didn’t happen. But at least there’s hope for the future.
The network programmer job is at Rockstar’s Edinburgh headquarters, not at Rockstar Leeds which does most of the hand-held gaming. So, the game in development would be for next-gen consoles, like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the PC. Get excited people!
