There’s been some rumors and whispers lately that Nintendo might be upgrading the built-in motion-sensing technology for Wiimotes – an internal MotionPlus accessory, so to speak.
They’ve denied it though, dismissing reports as “purely rumor and speculation” card. This reply comes after TechOn!‘s report about Nintendo supposedly contracting with new suppliers for manufacturing the next batch of Wii remotes.
Currently, Nintendo’s Wiimote accelerometers are being supplied by Analog Devices Inc and STMicroelectronics. Another company, Konix, was deemed as another strong candidate for accelerometers, but Nintendo opted for the other two instead.
