Responding to some of the details announced on an IGN podcast released this week, Nintendo disputed the claim that the file size of Wii Software (WiiWare) titles would cap at 40MB. Nintendo also challenged the declaration that developers would be setting their own prices and would limit their releases to only one game per month.
A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed Nintendo’s original announcement that “WiiWare games will come in a range of sizes but we will encourage smaller, more compact games for the service.” The spokesperson also clarified that Nintendo hasn’t revealed any details as to who sets pricing for Wii Ware titles. Furthermore, the spokesperson said that Nintendo estimated the one-game-per-month limit in order to give the company enough leeway to deal with potential volume issues.
While Nintendo has classified some of the podcast’s information as “speculation,” the company also hopes that it’s WiiWare service will encourage independent parties to become more involved with Wii development and continue to create games of their own.
