Nintendo DS sales break 21-million mark
In a new statement just issued by Nintendo, the company reports that they have now sold more than 21 million Nintendo DS systems worldwide since the launch in November 2004. This statistically means that there’s one Nintendo DS sold every two second, or 23 systems per minute. Rather than picking at their rival Sony, Nintendo has preferred to compare themselves with Apple, who sold 1 million iPod music players in a similar timespan of 19 months.
George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing said that this success mainly comes from “Nintendo’s overall strategy of offering something for everyone – from five-year-olds caring for their Nintendogs to 65-year-olds tuning their mental agility with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day“.
With the new DS Lite now in stores, selling almost as well as it’s predecessor at launch, and the huge success of the Touch Generations line of games, the DS is at the peak of it’s popularity. 130 DS titles are currently available, backed up by a library of 880 GBA titles. And gamers can look into a bright future in the following months with the release of games like Starfox Command, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Final Fantasy III and many more.
