Despite the fact that Japan is no longer willing to support hardware repair services to the old-school NES and SNES consoles, gamers will always have the option of availing of Nintendo’s Virtual Console to help satisfy those retro gaming urges they have every now and then.
In a recent announcement, Reggie Fils-Aime mentioned that the company will not be increasing the output of games to be released for the Wii’s Virtual Console. He previously announced that Nintendo was planning to release around 200 games for the VC by the end of the year.
Currently, there are 166 titles available for download. Taking into consideration the average rate of three games released per week, the total would hardly reach the previously announced 200 mark.
Asking for confirmation on the matter, IGN contacted Nintendo to see if they will be stepping up the number of releases per week to meet up to Fils-Aime’s claims. However, a spokesperson from Nintendo said that Fils-Aime’s statement was merely an approximate to the amount of retro games that will be available by the end of the year.
Nintendo’s retro download service is estimated to reach around 187 games by December 31. Hopefully, out of that 187 you already have your pick of your favorite retro games from the supported old-school platforms.
