No Dead Rising at ASDA
Once again, stirring up the consumer world is Dead Rising, the zombie survival action game that garnered praise on every corner of the video game community for it’s comical over-the-top reimagination of George Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead.
But now, it’s not only the German BPjM that’d much rather like to see it disappear, as UK-based supermarket chain ASDA has apparently refused to stock Dead Rising at all. A strange decision – since when did ethics play a role when a game is expected to rise to the top of the video game charts, a position likely to result in healthy profits?
The Walmart-owned ASDA so far seems to be the only store chain to refuse the sale of the game, which received an ’18’ rating by the BBFC. But as Walmart’s largest overseas subsidiary, and with hundreds of stores spread throughout the country, UK gamers will have a harder time getting to their zombie action.
Nevertheless, once violent games stumble into the news, their notoriety is bound to raise even further. Which presumably will do anything but hurt Dead Rising‘s sales everywhere else.
