No Gears of War for Germany

wonder why he looks so pissed?

First they stopped the zombies from rising with Dead Rising, and now Marcus won’t be making it to Europe“>Germany too?! My oh my, our German friends must be gearing up for war with USK now that news is starting to spread that Gears of War won’t be landing on German shores.

Apparently, USK (Germany’s ESRB) refused to give GoW an age rating despite Microsoft‘s appeals. CVG reports that USK would only allow GoW to be sold in the country if Epic agrees to make a cut-down version of the shooter game (read: less blood, chainsaw-ing gore and violence), to which Epic said that it simply wouldn’t be possible without significantly changing the game’s core gameplay.

But USK stands by their decision that due to the game’s extreme violence and visually graphic body-chainsawing antics, they have stripped Gears of War of an official release in the country. This is a huge blow not only to our German gamers (our hearts bleed for you, guys) but also to Microsoft and Epic, as Germany remains as one of the biggest markets for video games in Europe. No word yet on Microsoft and Epic’s response to this news but we will inform you once news reaches our ears, so make sure you check back with us for more updates.
