Novel based on the Command and Conquer 3 series announced
Random House Publishing Group has recently given word that Del Rey will be publishing a novel based on Electronic Arts‘ (EA) Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. This game, which was released on the Xbox 360 and PC, has received much acclaim despite certain multiplayer issues during its launch.
Keith R. A. DeCandido, the author of the novel, has written a story that should be familiar to fans of the series. In 2047, Tiberium – a self-replicating alien substance – is spreading across the planet. The Global Defense Initiative (GDI), is fighting to contain Tiberium. However, with the spread of this substance comes opportunity and Kane, the leader of the Brotherhood of Nod, has decided that Tiberium is the key to world domination. An alien race has descended on our planet at this point and war between the three factions broke out.
Patrick OÂ’Brien, the Vice-President of Business Affairs at EA, has spoken on the novel saying “WeÂ’re excited to expand the Command & Conquer franchise to a new form of media and offer a depth to the underlying fiction of the game series like never before.” He later added that “Keith DeCandido wrote a great story, and weÂ’re pleased to have partnered with him and Del Rey”
The novel is slated to hit stores this May 29, 2007. Will this be the first book in a series or a single novel? We’ll just have to wait and see, one thing is for sure though, we’ll be picking up a copy just to see if the novel is faithful to its source material.
