Of Mangled DS Lites and Cracked Hinges
I treat my Ice Blue DS Lite like a baby. I even bought a sturdy (not to mention pricey) protective case just to make sure it’s sheltered from harm. So, you can just imagine my horror when I saw a photo of a mangled white DS Lite from jacobian.org. According to the owner, his (bad) dog chewed up his one-month old DS Lite. That’s quite obvious based on the teeth marks all over the unit.
Despite the battered condition, the unit still turns on, with busted touch screen and all. Well, Nintendo is known to make durable products, so that’s not really surprising. What’s surprising is that Nintendo only charged the owner $50 for a replacement. Incredible! That’s just the same price you’d have to pay to fix the cracked hinge of your DS Lite. Yep, you read that right, the warranty does not cover hinge cracks. Several people at some forums who have reported the problem aren’t happy about Nintendo’s policy on cracked hinge, and I’m sure there are several more out there who have the same problem but have not come forward.
