Pachter: Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 to outsell PS3 version
It’s always interesting to follow analyst predictions concerning the gaming industry. Wedbush Morgan’s analyst Michael Pachter, for instance, gave his own forecast concerning the Grand Theft Auto franchise being in good hands if EA takes over – a prediction that wasn’t received warmly by most gamers. He now has another prediction: that the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4 (Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360) will grossly outsell its PS3 counterpart. More details in the full article.
With the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 (Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360) imminent, one just can’t help but wonder about this simple question: which version will do better, the Xbox 360 Grand Theft Auto 4, or the PlayStation 3 version? Whatever your guess is, Wedbush Morgan’s gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter already has a bet in the Xbox 360 version of the game.
Pachter predicted that the latest addition to Take-Two’s topnotch IP will sell about nine million units within its first year. The catch? Six million of those units will be for the Xbox 360.
Why the discrepancy between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game? The analyst did not add any specifics, but instead added that the Xbox 360 downloadable content will only prove to be “financially unrewarding” for Take-Two. Pachter explained that for Take-Two to make money from Xbox Live downloads, they will have to generate two million downloads first.
Will Pachter prove to be correct? We’ll never know until Grand Theft Auto 4 gets released. We’re also curious about both version’s outcome, so stay with us to get more updates as they come.
