Microsoft confirmed with IGN today that Perfect Dark Zero will feature two-player online cooperative gameplay in its upcoming Xbox 360 game as well as a healthy batch of new and revisited weapons, many of which can be dual wielded. The most recent issue of the Official Xbox Magazine offers a feature story on Perfect Dark Zero, including hands-on information clarifying new details. Joanna Dark’s sequel, long time in the making, offers a Datacore Training level that takes place underwater, Subway Retrieval, and Rooftop levels. Players will have access to Cover Mode, enabling contact sensitive movement around corners and other specific objects, a slew of gadgets, such as Locktopus, Demolition Kits, and Camspys, and play mini-games to unlock doors. Following up on the first Perfect Dark, PDZ continues to provide dual wielding with most automatic weapons (including the ability to wield guns and throw grenades simultaneously), as well as offering primary and secondary firing from most weapons. Perfect Dark Zero’s cooperative mode enables tradition side-by-side gameplay, in addition to the you-cover-me-I’ll-cover-you tactics, most recently seen in Free Radical’s TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. Microsoft also confirmed that all weapons have melee attacks, and that the Jackal Sniper Rifle (secondary function: EMP marker), Laptop Gun (Secondary function: Sentry Gun), P9P Pistol (which can be dual wielded; secondary function: Silencer with flashlight), UBL Liberator SMG (secondary function: Booby trap), SuperDragon (secondary function: bouncing grenade launcher), and the Viblade (which can chain combo) are all in the game. IGN also learned that Perfect Dark Zero is finally looking much, much better. We’ve heard a new batch of screenshots show off the game in a different light than at E3, with great texture work, sharp surfaces, and highly polished levels. Lastly, we’ve learned that Perfect Dark Zero is not concretely set to launch day and date with Xbox 360. In other words, it’s doubtful as a day one launch title. Expect to see it in 2005, and most probably before Christmas, but not day one.
