PS3 Downgrade Rumor is Plain “Ridiculous”

PS3A few days ago rumors started going around that the PS3 is set for a downgrade. The reason being Sony couldn’t fit all the original PS3’s components without causing the console to overheat. Then there were hints that the Cell processor would run at a lower speed than the original spec stated. Here comes the good news. Sony spokesperson Jonathan Fargher called the PS3 rumours “categorically not true”.

Developers have been working with PS3 dev kits for anywhere between eight and 12 months,” he said. “To suggest that we’d now take the decision to downgrade the hardware at such a late stage, is, well, ridiculous.”

Fagher also said they were not having any problems fitting all the PS3’s technical components into a plastic box. After making making consumer electronics equipment for 40 years, the company claims they have “extensive experience in making things fit. PSone and Slimline PS2 being just two examples of that.
