Sales of the PlayStation 3 and the PSP are on the up and up. PS3 game sales even doubled up from last year. More than doubled actually, with 21.1 million sold for the quarter, 10.7 million more from last year.

Unfortunately, PSP game sales seem to be going downhill, falling 0.8 million for this quarter, selling only 11.8 million. On the other hand, hardware sales of the PSP sold 3.18 million, up by 0.60 million from last year.

PS3 hardware, on the other hand, sold 2.43 million units, an increase of 1.12 million from last year. Not quite enough to say it doubled up like its software, but that’s still a huge increase.

This is good news for those concerned with the PS3 and PSP’s future, considering how Sony’s lowered its earnings forecast recently. Sony as a whole suffered a 70% drop in overall profits – a big number no matter how much you slice it. Hopefully the decline of their other divisions will not affect the PS3 and the PSP.
