PTC demands that ESRB reinstate Manhunt 2 Adult Only rating

The controversial Manhunt 2 by Rockstar Games - Image 1 As a response to Senator Leland Yee’s warning, Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council (PTC) has called upon the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) to reinstate the original “Adults Only” rating on Rockstar Games’ Manhunt 2 (PS2, Wii, PSP). On top of that, Mr. Winter listed a couple of other PTC demands and possibly hinted at the kind of trouble that could befall the ESRB should the rating body fail to meet his demands regarding Manhunt 2.

Mr. Tim Winter also urged the ESRB to suspend all reviews and consideration of any other games published by Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, noting that the two “have breached the trust of the entire video game rating system.” Mr. Winter also demanded to know exactly what it is that Rockstar Games edited out of Manhunt 2 in order to keep concerned parents in the know. Furthermore, Mr. Winter added:

Unless the industry as a whole, including the ESRB, steps up to the plate immediately and decisively, there is little doubt the video game ratings system will face the specter of government oversight.

With a lawyer, a senator, an advocacy group, a non-government organization, and now concerned parents breathing down the necks of Rockstar Games and the ESRB, it looks like all the ballyhoo regarding Manhunt 2 won’t be fizzling out anytime soon.
