Rainbows Over Burning Vegas

Target

Las Vegas is in a middle of a desert. It’s supposed to be hot, but not burning hot! In Ubisoft‘s new game, Rainbow Six: Vegas, the players are dropped unto a Vegas we can only imagine in nightmares – burning, broken buildings, and death everywhere. After our last post about a voiced walkthrough, we’ll be going into some further details after the GC.

The players don’t have health bars, but rather a Kevlar armor that usually takes a few rounds before you die. We like this better, because it helps more with the realism of the whole game.

The cover system is very much like its older brother, Ghost Recon, with some additional features. Cover shooting is back, but blind fire is better as throwing a grenade into a pack of enemies from behind a cover is satisfying when you hear their screams of anguish. To cover, click on the left thumbstick. A new feature gives you a 360 degree vision (we call it the God-vision). Less surprise attacks on this one, folks. Thermal and night vision goggles give the game a more valid feel as you go through burning and smoking debris in Vegas.

Enemy AI is better on this one. They flank you if you’re too focused on one enemy. One feature that may be important to players is that there’s a leader in every enemy group. Shoot him down and the rest will just go reckless and stupid. How do you know who the leader is? You’ll have to play the game to find out.

The enemy tagging system makes targetting specific enemies easier. You just point out to your group who the number one target will be then let them loose. Works well with setting up ambushes and traps.

Here are some tidbits of info you might like: the old voice commands may be coming back, there might be support for 4 player co-op over Live, but they’re a bit unsure about the cover feature in multiplayer though.

Until the release in Q4 of 2006, then? Yeah, Vegas burns and Rainbow Six will be the only ones left standing.
