It’s like not a year goes by when we don’t hear about Sony’s alleged PSP phone. Apparently it’s that time of year again. The Wall Street Journal  reports that according to industry insiders, such a device is in the works along with another device being built to stand up to Apple’s iPad.

“That’s the vision, but it’s still not quite clear what specific steps Sony will take to achieve that, especially when iPad and other highly capable mobile devices are crowding the market,” said Nobuo Kurahashi, consumer-electronics analyst with Mizuho Investors Securities.

As the WSJ’s source puts it, the new device “blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PSP”. The smart phone, on the other hand, will let users download and play PlayStation games. Sounds kinda like the Satio, doesn’t it? Both devices will also reportedly support Sony’s new online media platform and will launch this year.
