Richard Allen Garriott Receives GDC Award for Lifetime Achievement for MMORPG

Richard Allen GarriotRichard Allen Garriott (a.k.a Lord British) of NCsoft North America is this year’s Game Developers Choice Award for Lifetime Achievement awardee. The ceremony will be held at the 6th annual Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony March 22, 2006, at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. Garriot, best known for his ULTIMA series, will be recognized for fueling the presence of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG) in the mass market. The 20-year veteran programmer and videogame designer has previously been named by Computer Gaming World as one of the “15 Most Influential Industry Players,” PC Gamers also included him in their list of “Game Gods,” while and PC Games named him “Designer of the Year.” Garriott and his brother Robert,were named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Inc magazine. Garriott was also recently chosen as the ninth inductee into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ Hall of Fame.
