Robbers’ Modus Operandi: Steal X360s just like in the ads
Remember the “Cops and Robbers” ads ran by Microsoft in Europe back in late September? It was a video clip of three masked robbers with stolen goods running away from the cops. In the end, it turned out, that they were all just friends playing the age-old chase game.
Curiously now, it seems that real-life robbers took their inspiration from the advertisement video and hijacked a truck full of Xbox 360 consoles in Staffordshire, England. Yes, a truck load, that’s Xbox 360 galore! Anyway, the real life robbery didn’t have all the urban free running the advert had.
What happened was the thieves, who were driving a Range Rover and Rover Saloon, indicated to the driver to slow down. The driver obliged, believing there was something wrong with his truck. He was then attacked by three masked men when the truck finally stopped. According to the reports, the stolen X360s cost all in all around 750,000 GBP or roughly around US$ 1.4 million.
While the ad definitely seemed to have worked, we’re sure that Microsoft is not quite happy with the incident. Anyway, here’s a clip of the Cops and Robbers advertisement and let us just imagine what happened that day in England.
