Rock Band PS3 does not recognize GHIII wireless Les Paul

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Image 1Xbox gamers playing Harmonix‘s Rock Band (for the Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3) and Activision‘s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (for the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) will have no problem using their guitar controllers for either game. But it doesn’t seem to be the case for PlayStation 3 owners. Read on to find out why.

Stratocaster - Image 1We have reported in an earlier article about the compatibility of guitar controllers between Harmonix‘s Rock Band (for the Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3) and Activision‘s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (for the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC), and have concluded that the Les Paul wireless for Guitar Hero III can work with Rock Band. However, it seems that it is not the case with the PS3 versions of the games.

When plugging in the dongle of the Guitar Hero III‘s Les Paul guitar into a PS3 running Rock Band, the game indicates that it recognizes the Les Paul as a controller, but not as a guitar. Instead, Rock Band will prompt the user to plug in a USB mic before proceeding with the game proper.

However, do take note that this incompatibility only applies to the PlayStation 3 versions of Rock Band and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The Les Paul for the Xbox 360 will still work with Rock Band, sans the special effects.
