Ryan Payton: MGS4 built for PS3, won’t be changed even if (HYPOTHETICALLY) for 360 also
In Ryan Payton‘s latest Kojima Productions Report podcast (#40), held with 1UP people as his vocal guests, they all debated about the advantages and disadvantages of multiplatform development, among other things. Obviously, this is related to those on-again, off-again rumors that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would jump into the 360 alongside its PS3 appearance.
The Kojima Productions producer response was to assure fans that there is zero compromise on MGS4‘s production: built for PS3, perform for PS3. When he sets aside the question of whether or not there is concurrent or planned future 360 production for the game, though, it’s tempting to wonder what’s left unsaid:
I can tell you honestly at this point, we have not changed the game in any form with the idea of ‘oh, we got to do this on 360.’ Put aside whether or not we’re developing for 360 or not, the game is built on the PS3 hardware, as you guys have known for the past two years or so.
At least 1UP’s fairly attributing the statement to “hypothetical” argument: it’s not a question of whether or not this game will make a 360 appearance. MGS4 development is spec’d to the PS3 as the platform, period, no ifs, no buts, no hypotheticals. This might open a whole new line of hypothetical debate here and elsewhere, though: could the 360 take on a PS3-spec’d MGS4?
