SCEA scores exclusive deal with Rockstar, new franchise coming to PS3
PS3 owners can now say, “So what if Microsoft is having exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 and PS3)?” In case you haven’t heard yet, Sony Computer Entertainment America have just scored a deal with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games that will bring a new exclusive franchise to the PlayStation 3.
The news was revealed by SCEA Director of 3rd Party Relations Michael Shorrock over at the official PlayStation Blog. No details were revealed whatsoever by Shorrock aside from the announcement. However, Shorrock said that the new title is not going to be L.A. Noire and that it’s going to be a whole new IP. He explained further,
[We’re] more excited about what’s to come from the current and future relationship between our companies. Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies.
Looks like the playing field has just been equalized, so to speak. Anyway, we really have no idea what kind of title to expect given the flexibility and talent of both companies. Care to hazard a guess? Updates as we get them!
