Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves recently gave out a number of details regarding PlayTV, specifically the launch date and what the device can do for you.
While talking with Eurogamer, Reeves said that PlayTV will be released by September 10 in Europe. He confirmed that it will allow gamers to record television shows while playing games, a feature we might add, which will ensure that we never miss another episode of our favorite television shows.
In addition, he also said that this device is also being prepped for launch in other PAL markets: “We’ve got Australia and New Zealand also lined up for it in January or February, because on their digital terrestrial they haven’t actually set the standards yet.”
Of course it wasn’t easy implementing this, and Sony had to overcome a few technical hurdles to get it to work as Reeves explained: “It was very difficult for some of the tech guys but we had to include it in the firmware upgrade, 2.41, but it’s done now.”
If you plan on picking up PlayTV, Reeves formerly revealed during the Sony PlayStation Day that this device would be available for around € 99 (around US$ 157).
