SCEE: Still no PS3 price cut for Europe, more bundles coming instead
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced a lot of new stuff for European PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable owners yesterday, but those who are still looking for a PS3 price cut are bound to be disappointed.
Speaking to video game news site Eurogamer, SCEE President David Reeves said that there are currently no plans to give the PS3 home video game console a price cut. Instead, SCEE will roll out new PS3 bundles that will come packed with different games to help increase console sales.
“What we’re going to allow, and it doesn’t need an announcement, is simply that we’ll probably put out more hard bundles than the Starter Pack,” said Reeves. “We’re not making any pricing announcements at Games Convention at all. There’s none. And we don’t have any plans in that regard. We’re really happy with the way that things are going for the PAL business. We really are. It’s on track.”
Reeves also explained that the reason for Sony’s decision not to announce any new games at the Leipzig Games Convention is that the company wants consumers to be “focused on five or six games”. According to Reeves, Sony doesn’t want to overload consumers with too many new titles since “they don’t have huge wallets and they can’t go out and buy five games at 59 Euros all the time”.
