Researcher Scott Owens from the University of Mississippi are starting tests to determine the effectiveness of the game’s regimen. Says Owen:
Obesity has become an epidemic in the United States, and one of the reasons is the adults and children are getting less physical activity.
There has been an upswing in sales of whole body movement video games over the past few years. This potentially could help family fitness, so we are looking at the research aspect to see if family fitness improves after purchasing one of these whole body movement game consoles.
The tests will follow the progress of eight families, who will be under the Wii Fit regimen for three months, and then without it for another three. Part of the regimen includes duking it out for who goes first. Well, no, but it’d be more interesting that way.
