Scott Nielson on Need for Speed: Carbon
We previously reported that actress Emmanuelle Vaugier will star in Need for Speed:Carbon, which will be available on November 10. Now here’s a a look at the game, from producer Scott Nielson‘s POV.
According to Nielson, the game will have two features that will usher in a “phenomenal game experience:” Canyon Racing and Crews.
“The Canyons represent some of the most dangerous and illicit courses that you can imagine. Picture your car flying down a narrow two-lane road with a steep mountain wall rising up to the heavens on one side and a sheer drop down to the valley below on the other side,” says Nielson. Moreover, the Canyon is actually based on a real location, the Carbon Canyon in California; a first in a Need for Speed game. There are also “Canyon duels” which is a race with two stages. The first one is all about tailing behind the car right in front of you, without falling off the cliff. The second stage is quite the reverse of the first one: you try to maintain the lead by putting much distance between you and your opponent.
The Crew on the other hand, are “AI teammates” with various personalities and driving skills. They play key positions in the meta-game, where you go against rival crews for control over territory. Nielson says “some of the skills will give you advantages in visual or performance customization; while others will help you manage your heat level when encountering cops.” You can find ’em in the Safehouse as you win races and defeat bosses. Also, you can control your AI teammates just by pressing a button, so you won’t get too distracted in your own game.
With these exciting developments, it seems that we will be taken in for a wild ride in Need for Speed:Carbon. We sure can’t wait for its release.
