Ready for Sonic and the Sega Superstars’ shot at the game of tennis? We’ve got another update for the upcoming sports video game, Sega Superstars Tennis (Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation3, DS, PS2) and it’s all about some of the contenders you’ll be able to play as in the game. Check out the full article for the details and the screenshots.
The last time we saw Sonic and friends in a sports video game was in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games playing in various Olympic events. This time, Sega is bringing its most well known characters and letting them loose on the tennis court in Sumo Digital‘s Sega Superstars Tennis (Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation3, DS, PS2). Today’s update introduces some of the characters you’ll be able to play as in the video game.
As you can probably tell, each character has his own strengths and weaknesses, as well as special moves. Sega’s poster boy, Sonic, leads the line-up of characters in Sega Superstars Tennis. Also included in the player roster is NiGHTS, Beat, Ulala, AiAi, Amigo, Tails, and Dr. Eggman. Let’s check out what they’ll be bringing to the tennis court.
- Sonic will naturally bring his speed into the game, additionally, he will also have the power to turn into Super Sonic. While in Super Sonic mode, he can hit the ball so hard that the opponents get knocked back trying to return it.
- NiGHTS on the other hand is an all-around player who fires a Superstar shot that teleports opponents to a random area and causes momentary confusion.
- Beat from Jet Set Radio has speed as his strength, with a Superstar shot where spray paint gets applied to the opponent’s court causing it to become slippery.
- Control is Ulala’s forte. Her shots causes Morolians to drop at random locations. If you think that’s pretty harmless, think again. If you get too close to a Morolian, your character will do a little jig.
- AiAi from Super Monkey Ball boasts of spin as his strength. Shots from this monkey causes a trail of banana peels to follow the balls trajectory. As you can probably tell, those bananas are slippery.
- He seems a bit small, but Amigo packs one hell of a punch. This critter from Samba De Amigo boasts of power as a major attribute and has an ability similar to AiAi. Though instead of bananas, Amigo’s shots causes maracas to litter the opponent’s court. A run in with the maracas will cause your character to dance.
- Sonic’s best pal Tails goes into play with spin as his strong point. Attempting to return a Superstar Power shot from Tails will cause your character to spin in place and causes temporary dizziness.
- On the other hand, Dr. Eggman brings power to tennis court. His special shot will have four spiked electric mines coming at you and will cause a stun effect if your character gets hit.
Anyway, that’s it for now. Sega Superstars Tennis will be smashing to the shelves on March 18 (and March 20 in Europe) so stay tuned. In the meantime, check out these character screenshots.
