SL still stable despite CopyBot crisis

SLDespite the whole CopyBot crisis that envelops Second Life‘s virtual world, Linden Lab CEO Philip Rosedale announced in a town hall meeting today that SL is still stable and in fact, going strong. In-game company Electric Sheep agreed, stating that fears felt by residents and businessmen are baseless and unfounded.

Just for the month of October, Rosedale reported that the game saw a whopping U.S.$ 9 million of in-world transactions. As suggested by the official, this is reflective of how vibrant and active SL‘s economy is. It would be remembered that after the CopyBot issue got big, many companies residing and doing business in the virtual world threatened to leave.

Rosedale also shared that over 75,000 unique users log in each day and they spend over 250,000 hours per day, meaning each player spends more than 3 hours on the average inside Second Life. Electric Sheep Company pointed out that they are actually looking at 22% month-on-month user growth back in June.

The company then admitted that there has been a steady growth decrease of 0.5% since then, but they are confident that one year from now, Linden Lab‘s MMO will be home to around 5 million active users. It is in this light that Rosedale is so keen on inviting people to submit their resumes during the meeting as they desperately need more staff members.
