Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has announced via presswire that its upcoming MMOs for the PlayStation 3, The Agency and Free Realms, will have microtransactions in the game. This pretty much means that the gamers can buy in-game items using money.
The service will be called Live Gamer Exchange and is said to provide the gaming community a way to conduct real-money transactions securely. The Live Gamer system incorporates Station Exchange technology which is the first publisher sanctioned RMT marketplace.
Interestingly enough, SOE has been refining this system for quite some time now since it is being used in the online MMORPG Everquest 2. Hopefully, the service will go live without a hitch because a lot of gamers will be on a warpath if a hacker successfully by-passes the system’s security.
