Sony is predicting a great March for the PS3. Even with the threat of tight inventory, the company still expects to reach the 13 million units sold worldwide milestone by the end of the month.
“There continues to be incredible demand for PlayStation 3, but tight inventory is definitely having an impact on recent sales numbers,” said SCE corporate communications senior director Patrick Seybold in an interview with Gamasutra.
“That said, we’re still tracking to sell 13 million PS3s worldwide by the end of March, which marks a 30 percent increase over last fiscal year.”
Last month saw PS3 unit sales up 30 percent year over year. Seybold expects the PlayStation Move reveal and next week’s PS3-exclusive God of War III to further drive sales higher. not just for this month, but for the whole of 2010.
“The platform is showing no signs of slowing down,” he said. “Needless to say, 2010 will be one of our best years ever for PS3 and we expect continued momentum for PSP and PS2.”
