Sony Chief Financial Officer: no plans for PlayStation 3 price cut

No PlayStation 3 price cut - Image 1Despite the announced switch to the new 65 nm RSX chips this Autumn, it seems that we may not see a price cut for the PlayStation 3 after all, if a statement from Sony‘s Chief Financial Officer is to be taken point blank. Details in the full article.

What’s this? Will the Xbox 360 receive a price cut and the PlayStation 3 won’t? This may be the case, if Sony‘s Chief Financial Officer Nobuyoki Oneda’s statement is to be taken point blank. This may be bad timing on Sony’s part, if its rival console manufacturer will indeed be introducing a price cut in the following days.

According to a statement given by Oneda while speaking to investors, Sony’s goal focuses on profitability, but price cuts aren’t part of the plan: “Our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability. Our plan is not to reduce the price.”

This may have been taken out of context, who knows? Maybe they mean to reduce the price, but not just in the near future, at least not in sight of E3. After all, the announced switch to the 65nm RSX Graphics Chip won’t be in effect until Autumn. Or perhaps the statement only applies to certain regions? At any rate, E3 will shed more light on the subject.
