It’s been denied by Sony time and time again, but news that Sony Ericsson has dropped its Walkman and Cybershot lines has once again ignited talk of a possible PSP phone. Comments made earlier this month by Sony Ericsson’s president have also added more fuel to the fire.

The Swedish manufacturer has apparently decided to drop them in favor of the new “Entertainment Unlimited” brand. This leaves the company with two more brands: the lifestyle “T” series and the high-tech “X” range.

The company has no separate gaming line right now, but earlier this month Sony Ericsson president Hideki Komiyama expressed interest in partnering with Sony’s gaming arm to give the company am edge over the competition. According to Komiyama, a PlayStation phone that builds on the Cybershot and Walkman lines could still happen.

While all of this speculation is fine and dandy, there’s one thing that could make it all moot, and that’s the fact that Sony Ericsson already has a Walkman-Cybershot hybrid, the Idou, that’s supposed to come out in the second half of 2009.
