Sony responds to European PS3s’ lack of Emotion Engine

PS3 - Image 1While quite expected, it was still a downer when we learned that the European PS3 models will be having issues with backwards compatibility because they lack the “Emotion Engine + Graphics Synthesizer” chip that powers the Sony.”>PS2 slim model.

Online blog Three Speech was quick to contact Sony and inquired about the matter. Accordingly, Sony has been assessing the extent of backward compatibility and will continue to do so until launch.

Moreover, a site will be provided come March 23 so that fans will have an easier time checking whether their titles are compatible with the new console or not (click here).

After that, the company went on and clarified that the removal of the Emotion Engine will only impact PS2 games. PSOne titles, on the other hand, remains backward compatible. Sony explained further,

We will continue to offer firmware upgrades to increase the number of titles that are compatible, but rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.
