SonyStyle ditches 20GB PS3
The future is looking up for Sony‘s high-powered PlayStation 3 console, but there may be some casualties along the way. The first of which is probably going to be the version of the console equipped with a 20GB hard drive.
Earlier we reported that game retailer EB Games has stopped selling the 20GB version of the next-gen console. Soon after, Sony’s official online purveyor itself, SonyStyle, announced that only the 60GB version of the PS3 will continue retail operations in the store.
Sony representatives explained that the package with the larger storage capacity was more popular with consumers. The 20GB model was never made available in Europe since the PS3 was released in March 23 in PAL territories. A Sony spokesperson answered a query regarding that topic by saying “we’ll continue to monitor demand for the 20GB model, from a consumer and retailer perspective, which will be factored into any future European launch plans.”
The halting of the PS3 20GB sale in SonyStyle was explained by SCEI rep Satoshi Fukuoka as, “The line-up [at SonyStyle] is decided based on market demand and so it’s not surprising that they are not selling it on their website. But if you go to a retailer you can find it.”
We’re sad to hear this news about the 20GB version, but hey, we shouldn’t be. The 60GB PS3 was a better deal anyway, and that’s why people liked it better, right?
