Space Tourists
The race is on to see which private company can come up with the first rocket planes to take ordinary people in to space.
Several companies have started building the prototype vehicles with plans to test fly them early next year. If they are able to get federal approval the first space tourist could be as early as next year or 2008.
The flight would reach suborbital space which is approximately 60 miles up and last roughly 2 hours having about 5 minutes of weightlessness. The total cost for a seat upon the commercial spaceship is between $100,000 and $250,000.
There have only been 3 civilian who have made it into space paying a reported $20 million each to spent about a week in weightlessness.
Hopefully with all the interest in making space vehicles it will drive the price down to the average persons pocketbook.
