Take this from a guy whose brilliant mind turned figments of the imagination into glorious cultural icons. No less than the man behind Marvel himself, Stan Lee, has expressed his admiration and respect for gaming development. His exact words: “It’s like a miracle.”
Speaking to The Guardian about Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, the legendary comic book mastermind gave major props to Activision for the work they put into the game. “In all honesty I’m not involved with the development. Activision deserves 100% of the credit,” he said, adding that he is usually quite impressed with the output.
Stan Lee also pointed out that if he didn’t write comic books, he’d be out there making video games. “If I were young now and I wanted to do stories, I would very much want to get into the video game business because it’s the most exciting. Video games and movies are the most exciting forms of entertainment,” he said. “But a video game in a way is more imaginative, it has more variety.”
That’s certainly high praise coming from a man who made a revolution with his imagination. “In a movie you stick to the plotline, in a video game you go in a million different directions. I have no idea how they’re able to do that. It’s like a miracle,” he said.
As for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, Stan Lee was very impressed with how the game came out. “It has more characters than I have ever seen, more characters that you yourself can take the identity of,” he said. “They use their powers exactly the way they do in the comics, yet it’s highly original and a new experience.”
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 hit store shelves back in September 15th for PS3, PSP, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, and DS.
