Starbreeze updates on games, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena “just about done”

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Image 1Another title believed to be vaporware comes back to life after a year-long lull in updates. Starbreeze Studio’s The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) is “just about done,” so says an admin on the developer’s official forums.

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Image 1It’s been literally a full year and a month since we last heard anything about Starbreeze Studio’s The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). At that time, it was announced that the release date has been moved to 2008.

Fast forward to today, it looks like they’re making good on their word as we receive news that it is actually still alive and kicking, and that in fact, it’s “just about done.” These were the words of an administrator over Starbreeze’s forums. A poster was wondering whatever happened to the projects of Starbreeze, such as Project Redlime, Darkness 2 and Dark Athena. The admin’s reply was this:

Yup, Project Redlime is in production. That is all we can say. As for Darkness 2, it’s not impossible but quite unlikely. Dark Athena is just about done. And the big boys are deciding who is going to publish it.

That is all we can say for now.

We don’t mind that that’s all they can say for now. I mean, it’s loads better than nothing, right? Fans of Riddick are sure gonna be stirred up with this news, and we’re hopeful that we’ll be hearing more from them, especially now that development is almost wrapped up.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena will be featuring online multiplayer for both versions, and will also include a full version of Escape from Butcher Bay as additional levels. Keep it posted here, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates to bring you as they come.
