Super Mario Galaxy Announced

Name: Super Mario Galaxy
Format:
Wii™
Launch Date: TBA
ESRB: RP (Rating Pending)
Game Type: Action Platformer
Accessories: Wii Remote and Nunchuk Controller
Players: 1-2
Developer: Nintendo

Super Mario Galaxy is what we have been calling “Mario 128” for years. Mario is now getting out of the Mushroom Kingdom and into space! Nintendo boasts,

  • Shake, tilt and point! Mario takes advantage of all the unique aspects of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller, unleashing new moves as players shake the controller and even point at and drag items with the pointer.
  • Mario essentially defined the 3-D platforming genre with Super Mario® 64, and this game proves once again that he is king. Players perform mind-bending, lowgravity jumps across wild alien terrain as they experience platforming for a new generation.

The game follows classic Mario storyline. Peach is kidnapped yet again, but not to Bowser’s Castle (Plot twist!), she has been taken to outer space. You will be exploring the entire galaxy with Mario jumping and running without anything like a waterpack. With the WiiMote, players will be “pressing buttons, swinging the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk, and even pointing at and dragging things with the pointer.” You thought Mario could jump high before? Think of how he’ll jump with decreased gravity. Mama mia.

Yes, I realize that Nintendo says it’s for 1 – 2 players, but they made absolutely no mention of it in the press release. Heck, they even have two people in the picture playing together!
