Over at Smash Bros. DOJO, there’s a new update that talks about a newbie-friendly approach to gaming, and that’s the handicap option that’ll be available in the final game. Super Smash Bros. Brawl’s handicap will allow people who are new to the game to do more damage, thus compensating their newbie status with power!

The handicap option essentially makes a newbie more powerful at the beginning of the fight, allowing him to increase his chances of winning against a veteran opponent. To enable this, simply enable handicaps in the Rules screen, then click on the Handicap button that shows up when you choose a character. From there, you can increase the handicap to make a specific character do more damage per hit.

You can also use handicaps to change everyone’s damage to the same level. That should make battles a test of skill as opposed to who has the most firepower.

Finally, there’s also an automatic handicap feature that you can enable. This feature gradually increases the starting damage of the winner of a match.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is slated to come out on February 10. In the meantime, why not enjoy these screenshots we have of the Handicap option in action?
