Synapse Headset – H R Giger Eat Your Heart Out

This thing is both creepy and cool. I’m not sure it’s the kind of thing you’d wear on the subway heading into work, without a lot of strange looks from fellow commuters, but perhaps that’s part of the allure. The Synapse is a wireless interface that’s worn around the neck and back of the head. It resembles vertebrae and came to its inventor, University of Bridgeport student David Salonen, in a dream. The Synapse has twin earpieces as well as twin microphones and is said to be free from wires, buttons and plugs. The fact the sources states the throat microphones enables the user to have “discrete conversations via your mobile phone” seems a little strange given the overall look of the device, still it’s an interesting concept and one designer David seems ready to make a reality.
