The Legend of Zelda for GameCube Delayed; New Sword Fighting Details Revealed

IGN reveals that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the GameCube will not launch at the same time as its version for the Wii will. The Wii version will be available at launch (November 19) while the GameCube version will not be released until December 11 of this year.

Another disappointment comes in at how the sword in the game will be used. We were all hoping that it was going to have a 1:1 ratio after Nintendo announced they were changing how it would function, but we won’t be getting exactly what we want just yet. It’s still completely gesture-based.

“The slicing mechanic is not one-to-one, which means that it feels nothing like holding and swinging a baseball bat in Wii Sports Baseball, for instance. Rather, if players gesture a swipe, Link will also swipe his sword – but it may not be in the same direction. We motioned several up and down swipes and occasionally Linked sliced sideways anyway.”

Hopefully Nintendo will have it one-to-one by its launch. It’s something we desperately want to see in this game. It’ll just feel tacked on if it’s gesture-based. Regardless, we’ll still be getting the game.
