This is the Digital Life: Assault Heroes
Hmm, it seems, after playing around with QJ’s search engine, that we only have one story on Wanako Studios/Sierra‘s upcoming XBLA title Assault Heroes. And that’s story says that it’s an upcoming Wanako/Sierra XBLA title! Well, let’s put some more beef in QJ’s coverage, shall we? Today, we’re not just bringing you godfree’s Youtube-posted vid, we’re also be bringing you snippets from IGN’s hands-on of the game!
godfree says the game’s “bringing it back to the old school”. I personally couldn’t agree more – you’re reading the article of a guy who’s math grades have suffered due to the Genesis/Mega Drive‘s Desert, Jungle AND Urban Strikes. And upon seeing this vid, that’s exactly what Assault Heroes reminded me of: a top-down multi-directional shooter like the isometric Strikes (minus the attack chopper, of course).
Catch the IGN control impressions, and more old-school Strike shooter references, at the full article!

Okay, now on to IGN’s hands-on of the game. It doesn’t really play like the Strikes however, because Assault Heroes takes advantage of the dual analog sticks. Left handles movement, and right does the aiming. Bumpers cycle through the usual assortment of MGs, flame throwers, rifles, rocket launchers… hmm. The only thing missing now is the Super Apache/Commanche/Mohican, and I’ll say this is Strike all over again.
No choppers, but besides hoofing it, the player can also drive and commandeer attack buggies and power boats. They also have their own weaponry. IGN found that the right-stick aiming system’s okay, unless you’re using the one-shot rifle, because the line of tracers is the best (practically the only) aiming guide you have. We here at QJ hope that Wanako could add at least some sort of visible aiming guide before the game’s released on December 13.
But all in all, it really looks like a fun game. And it does bring back those good times, good times, when back in the 1990’s, Chris L. roamed the skies of the Middle East/South American jungles/various urban and country locales with nothing more than a Sega Genesis gamepad, a full load of Hellfire missiles, and a will that won’t quit…
