Touhou Fangame Beta 1 – insane shooter action on Nintendo Wii
We know this one’s some days late, but we couldn’t forget to let danmaku shooter fans in on the news: there’s a new homebrew game coming for their homebrew capable Wiis. Author SquidMan programmed an early version of a Touhou for Nintendo’s next generation console which ties directly to the Wii remote, but as because Touhou Fangame Beta 1 is still in early beta, don’t expect it to run smoothly on its maiden launch. Homebrew developer SquidMan posted up an action, scrolling shooter project for Wii homebrew just a couple of days ago on WiiBrew, and it seems to have promise. Touhou Fangame Beta 1 is not complete, however, and may lack the appearance of the look and feel that Touhou fans have come to love.
For this reason, Touhou Fangame is rendered a generic, homebrewed danmaku shooter for the Wii now.
Most of its assets were borrowed from sources on the Internet, but it’s entirely a ‘ground-up’ remake with code licensed to the general public. SquidMan plans to recreate Touhou Project on the Wii faithfully to how ZUN produced the original doujin software: this is entirely a one-man project.
That didn’t wouldn’t the developer from asking for some fan-made content, however, so if we’re reaching any budding or experienced artists here, let’s lend a helping hand, shall we? The game only employs basic controls that you may find in the bundled documentation. Source and Homebrew Channel-compatible build archive follows in the download below. Enjoy!
