There has been a lot of talk floating around about Sony’s plans to start charging for PSN. According to SCEA CEO Jack Tretton, they’re not going to do that until they come up with new features to justify it.
“As far as subscription services are concerned, we’re really proud of the service that we offer the consumer for free,” said Tretton in the latest episode of GTTV. “There’s no question that if we can come up with a compelling experience that will warrant an investment from consumers that that would be something we would consider.”
“We already feel we brough a lot of value to the consumer… but until we feel we have something, like PlayStation Move, that justifies an investment, we aren’t going to come out with half cocked technology or product offerings.”
Tretton also enticed PS3 and PSP owners to watch out for this year’s E3. Apparently GDC was just a small taste. Sony’s keeping the big guns holstered for the yearly gaming expo. “I’m saving the batter for E3. We will absolutely bring the heat,” he said.
So, is a Killzone 3 reveal part of Sony’s trump cards? Tretton wouldn’t confirm it, but he did promise that a third game in the franchise is a no-brainer.
“We own Guerrilla [Games] and they did a great job on Killzone 1 and 2. I don’t know whether you’ll see announcements about it [at E3], but I can promise you a Killzone 3.”
