Nintendo has a very special treat for Mario fans this week: the long-awaited arrival of the NES classic Super Mario Bros. 3 on the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console. That’s right folks, the game widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time will finally hit the Wii Shop Channel.
Super Mario Bros. 3 will be a great opener for next week’s release of Super Mario Galaxy. Players will once again be reintroduced to the Tanuki Suit (which more often than not caused gamers to ask, “How could a raccoon suit make a plumber fly?”), the Frog Suit, and the Hammer Bros. Suit. All of this and more for a measly 500 Wii Points.
Backing Super Mario Bros. 3 up are two more classic titles: Alien Soldier and Power Golf. Alien Soldier is a side-scrolling action title for the Sega Genesis that was previously released only in Japan and Europe. Gamers play as Epsilon-Eagle, a genetically-engineered alien soldier out for revenge. Alien Soldier is available for 900 Wii Points.
Power Golf is this week’s TurboGrafx16 release. Power Golf lets up to three players compete against each other for 18 holes. Power Golf even has a handicap feature so that novice players can pull off a few breathtaking shots just like the more advanced gamers. Power Golf is available for 600 Wii Points.
