Ubisoft replies to rumors of a French Revolution setting for Assassin’s Creed 2

Wedbush Morgan analyst and video game industry information guru, Michael Pachter, recently let slip that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be set several hundred years beyond the crusades, sometime in the 1700s and perhaps during the French Revolution. Ubisoft had a thing or two to say about that.

While the first bit was presented as fact, Pachter went on to speculate that the sequel might be set during the French Revolution since that particular piece of history hasn’t really been heavily explored in videogames yet (unlike, say, ninjas in Japan).

Naturally, wild rumors and speculation ensued of a coiffed Altair exclaiming “sacrebleu,” between killings.

Ubisoft quickly issued a statement (via VG247) in response to Pachter’s speculation and the supposed change in time setting, saying, “this is only a rumor and we would prefer not to comment on rumors.” Although they have confirmed that the game is currently in the works, they’re still obviously keeping mum about any details.
