Ubuntu on Apple Macbook

ubuntuLaptops running Linux just might be the next big thing. Somebody has dedicated a site about getting Ubuntu Dapper (6.06 LTS) working on the new Macbook. The Dapper, once installed in the Macbook, run the following stuff smoothly:

  • Video
  • Direct rendering
  • Sound
  • Ethernet
  • Basic keyboard functionality
  • Basic touchpad functionality
  • Advanced keyboard features
  • Wireless
  • Battery
  • Firewire, USB2, Bluetooth
  • DVD playback
  • CD burning
  • Booting via BIOS mode (often incorrectly called ‘BootCamp’)

Video out, remote control, and iSight have not been tested yet but the author expresses that there is a big possibility this stuff will work. Currently, the sleep, backlight control, advanced touchpad features, and EFI booting are not working.
