Ultima Online fans get special fansite treatment

Ultima Online has loyal fansIf you are or have been an Ultima Online player, then you know it’s been here for quite a while now. They’ve got an expansion in the works that brings updated graphics to the fold, for one thing. Electronic Arts is also planning a clean break from its past in terms of treating its devoted fanbase, and to do that, they’ll be paying special attention to fansites great and small.

A letter from Community Relations director Sanya Thomas says they’ll be changing how things work in the fansite world. They’re going to work on spreading the word of UO through the fans, and to do that, they’re going to give fansites more access.

On giving fans more access to content, Sanya notes that will be a matter of asking them for things you’d like to try out:

The community team will respond to your requests as best we can – and we will let you know right away when we cannot give you what you’re asking for. Typical requests would be for beta access, interviews, and Q&A features. But don’t stop there. Let your imagination run free – always ask, and we’ll always do our best.

More importantly, the people at UO are going to work hand-in-hand with fansites in promoting the game. Achievements done by members of the community and mentioned on fansites will get exposure, regardless of the size of the site bringing out this new info. It’s an interesting means of keeping people interested, but one that’s quite logical. After all, what does a company have to lose by helping to make their fans the stars of the show?
