United it stands: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite really exists
Earlier this month, rumors of a Western release for Monster Hunter Portable 2ng G sparked anew when Capcom mentioned a certain “Monster Hunter Unite” in one of their surveys. Well, guess what? Capcom has filed a trademark for “Monster Hunter Freedom Unite”!
Will North America ever get Monster Hunter Portable 2ng G? Capcom‘s defintiely keeping mum about it – but that doesn’t mean we can’t look to other sources for some form of answer. And via Siliconera, that’s just what we have today: sighted on the US Patent Office is a trademark for “Monster Hunter Freedom Unite”.
Aside from the obvious proof that Capcom filed for the trademark at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, note that “Freedom” is included in the label. That’s a clear sign that this trademark is intended for the Western market since previous Monster Hunter titles on the PSP contained the “Freedom” label too.
So what is it? If Capcom’s previous survey is anything to go by, this certain “Monster Hunter (Freedom) Unite” will be using some form of Linking system which allows PSP users “to play with other players across the world via a PS3 connected to the internet.”
Right now, I’m not sure which is better: getting a North Americam release of 2nd G or an entirely new Monster Hunter title. What’s your bet? It’s anyone’s guess right now, really, but fact of the matter is… Capcom’s definitely cooking something for the US!
