*Update* Multiplayer mayhem: Details on the Annex game mode
QJ Blogger Enrico S. talked about the new “Annex” gameplay update for Gears of War, and since he sort of promised that we’ll present you folks with updates on the matter, here’s what we’ve got (thanks to QJ reader Jeffrey): The new multiplayer game type will be available on Xbox LIVE on April 9. It’s called Annex, and your objective is to capture and hold key locations to collect enough points to win a round.
How does it work? As mentioned you have to keep control over key map locations, or objectives, for long enough. Every map has two to five identified objectives available for capture, with one objective active at a time. Objectives are based on map weapon-spawn locations and have a potential value of 60 points toward either team’s score.
Teams collect said points by maintaining ownership of an objective until all its 60 points have been distributed. Teams collect points by maintaining ownership of the objective until all its 60 posts have been distributed. Ever second a team controls an objective the team gets one point. After a minute – 60 points an objective remember – the next objective is selected at random.
To capture an objective players must stand inside a glowing red ring in the area for an uncontested amount of time. The length of time depends on how many teammates stand in the ring at once. Round scores can be set as low as 120 points or as high as 480 points. First team to reach the target score wins.

Update: We came upon this new information from IGN about the Annex gameplay update for Epic Games’ Gear of War, and it turns out that the developers took back a really minute detail on the release date of the update.
